Fund Raising for a Telecoms Operator:
The client, a leading alternative telecoms operator, wished to
raise funds from the financial markets to assist in its
international expansion opportunities. Working alongside a major
North American investment bank, Mott MacDonald Schema undertook a
rigorous analysis of the business plan and strategic direction of
the carrier. Revenues and costs were modelled over a ten year
period and an independent consultant report produced. This was
distributed to the financial community and used to raise the
finance.
International Expansion Support:
Mott MacDonald Schema provided on-going support to a leading
international corporation on its international expansion plans.
This included a series of studies across Europe, North America,
Asia and South America examining the market conditions in target
countries and the most appropriate market entry strategy. This
included:
- Business planning
- Successfully applying for telecoms licences
- Merger and acquisition support - notably through the
identification of potential partners and acquisition targets and
the conduct of due diligence.
Due Diligence - Interactive Services over DSL:
A consortium of venture capital firms asked Mott MacDonald Schema
to assess the market opportunity presented by a company that had a
complete end to end solution that enables an operator to become a
Full Service Provider (FSP) in order to deliver interactive
services over DSL.
In particular the due diligence considered the following:
- Overview of macro broadband market: Mott MacDonald Schema
provided an overview of the regulatory status of broadband (LLU)
technology being used to deploy broadband communications (e.g.
BFWA, cable modem, 3G) and the commercial roll out status of
broadband services
- Overview of DSL market: this was an overview of the regulatory
status of DSL and the commercial roll out status of broadband
services as being offered by operators
- Consumer related review, including:
- - the timing of end consumer take-up of interactive
services
- - the types of services consumers want now and in the
future
- - an estimate and analysis of what consumers may be prepared to
pay for such services
- Operators' views on the fat vs thin client (set top box)
approach
- The potential opportunity for the company - size, timing,
likely early customers
- A review of service providers' business models and the RoI
model used by the company in presenting the proposition to service
providers.
