Broadband Aggregation Study:

Mott MacDonald Schema undertook a major study for a UK County Council, funded by a Regional Development Agency assessing the market potential for public sector broadband aggregation in the leading city in the region. Mott MacDonald Schema held discussions with key stakeholders (education, health, police, city and county councils, museums etc) and assessed their use of telecoms services with a particular emphasis on broadband. In addition a detailed review of existing contracts, resources, attitudes and perceptions towards broadband aggregation was undertaken.

In parallel with this programme of research, Mott MacDonald Schema also interviewed leading telecoms operators and service providers about their attitudes towards service provision in the region and the key contractual, technical and financial parameters that would need to be in place.

Mott MacDonald Schema then produced a detailed business plan that aggregated the demand for public sector telecoms services in the region and made recommendations as to how this public sector demand could be used as a lever to entice further investment in the region by the telecoms industry.

Broadband Policy Advisor:

The UK Prime Minister's Strategy Unit asked Mott MacDonald Schema to contribute to its report "Electronic Networks - Challenges for the Next Decade". By providing the project team with a detailed understanding of the economics of providing access services in rural areas, we were able to guide their thinking regarding Government intervention in the delivery of broadband services to a wider market than exists today.
